Virgin Blue RBS Morgans cycling team and ASCEND – A winning partnership

ASCEND is pleased to announce we are the official nutrition sponsor of the newly formed Virgin Blue RBS Morgans cycling team.

Virgin Blue RBS Morgans is the development squad in the Pegasus Racing program, who also manage the highly successful Fly V Australia cycling team. With Fly V increasingly focused on the US market, this new team will contest Australian domestic races in 2010.

The team is in more than capable hands, with Pat Jonker, a former Tour Down Under winner and Tour de France entrant, as Director of Sport. “I am looking forward to working with such a young and talented squad. My role is not only to lead the team, ensuring success, but also to mentor the riders” he says. “The mentoring role is one that I will cherish the most.”

There are thirteen riders on the Virgin Blue RBS Morgans squad, with the average age of 20 years old. Team owner, Chris White, says the development of the team is an opportunity to develop the talent of individual young athletes. “We see the Virgin Blue RBS Morgans Team as being very successful and at the same time a breeding ground for Australia’s next pro cyclists” he says.

The major focus this year will be the National Road Series which runs from March through to October and includes such races as the Tour of The Murray River, Launceston To Hobart and the Shipwreck Coast Classic. The program will include around 100 days of racing in 2010 alone.

The Virgin Blue RBS Morgans team has already tasted success early in the series. Ben Dyball came second in the Mersey Valley Tour in Tasmania before leading the 2010 Canberra Tour from start to finish, coming away with an impressive win. He now sits at the top of the table in the National Series.

Pat Jonker said, “I am very impressed by the Team work displayed and the mateship of the guys. I couldn’t fault their performance all weekend, they did exactly as we planned and executed our plan perfectly each day.”

In the recent FK Gardiner Tour Of Toowoomba, Pat Shaw secured a win for Virgin Blue RBS Morgans in their home state of Queensland.

The Virgin Blue RBS Morgans cycling team has been training and competing with the unique advantage of ASCEND Elite Recovery powder and ASCEND Elite Recovery bars since the beginning of the 2010 national series.
