South Dragons Ascend to Top Spot
Despite a tough ask to back up from a game in New Zealand just three days earlier, the South Dragons have managed to hold out home side Adelaide 36ers; 106-100, in a character building win.
After a margin swinging first quarter, the Dragons eventually took a 5 point lead into the first break. Joe Ingles then came out in the second and set the game alight. With the hot hand he scored 12 of his teams first 14 points of the second quarter – shooting at an accuracy of 83%.
Ingles again pushing hard at the start of the third quarter; helped the Dragons get out to a healthy 82 to 61 lead. He’d later end with a team high 27 points and Adelaide coach Scott Ninnis would lament that “the first few minutes of the second half where really damaging for us”.
From mid way through the third, Adelaide surged; lead by the talented Julius Hodge and the vocal home crowd. The gallant come back set up a last term where the lead would change three times.
The dying minutes of Saturday nights game; the Dragons players were certainly asked to ‘be the best you can be’; pulling out the last 7 points of the match; to take the lead; the game; and an imposing 11 – 3 win-loss record for the season.
With the NBL running a game schedule that often involves teams playing back-to-back, with narrow breaks; the Dragons have found real benefit this year in using ASCEND Elite Recovery powder, and soon to be commercially available Recovery Bars.
