Lisa Weightman takes out Christchurch Half Marathon
On a day that presented cold, wet and windy weather – far from ideal for turning out fast times – Lisa Weightman has posted a scorching hot time to take out the Women’s Half Marathon in Christchurch NZ.
“I really wanted to run fast, and I was going really well until we turned into that wind” Lisa said of her performance that saw her push out to a 30 second lead after the first 10km. The little Aussie dynamo continued to power through in the second half, leaving her competitors in her wake.
“I felt good and kept pushing, and it was good to get the win in a good field.”
Lisa finished a notable 3 minutes ahead of her nearest female rival; on a day that had it not been for the weather may well have provided her a course record.
The SBS Christchurch marathon is New Zealand’s second largest running festival. Held over the NZ Queens Birthday long weekend, this year the event played host to over 5,000 competitors from New Zealand and around the world.
