Madeleine Pape's win in 800m qualifys her for IAAF World Champs

After taking out her first international title by winning gold in her favourite 800m discipline at the World University Games earlier this month, Madeleine Pape, has now been announced as earning selection in this event for the IAAF World Championships to be held next month.  Pape adds this prized selection to her earlier qualification to Australia’s 4x400m team.

Pape took out the World Uni Games title in an impressive performance that saw her burst clear of the pack on the final back straight, opening up a 5m lead on Russian star Irna Maracheva.  Pape then powered home in a time of 2.01.91 to win by almost two clear seconds from nearest rival Olga Critea of Moldova, with Maracheva coming home in third.

Pape who has been training and competing with ASCEND Elite Recovery throughout 2009 was ecstatic with her performance saying “to back up three days in a row, that’s a pretty good time.”

The IAAF World Championships will be held in Berlin from the 15th to 23rd August 2009, when Australia’s finest track and field athletes take on the worlds best.  We’ll be keeping a close eye on this kid as she looks to better her sub 2-minute personal best of 1.59.92.
